New Leukemia Treatment

Doctors have treated only three leukemia patients, but the sensational results from a single shot could be one of the most significant advances in cancer research in decades. And it almost never happened.
In the research published Wednesday, doctors at the University of Pennsylvania say the treatment made the most common type of leukemia completely disappear in two of the patients and reduced it by 70 percent in the third. In each of the patients as much as five pounds of cancerous tissue completely melted away in a few weeks, and a year later it is still gone.
Archaea

I recently found out about Archaea.
The Archaea (/ɑrˈkiːə/ (
listen) ar-kee-ə) are a group of single-celled microorganisms. A single individual or species from this domain is called an archaeon(sometimes spelled “archeon”). They have no cell nucleus or any other membrane-bound organelles within their cells.
Archaea are now recognized as a major part of Earth’s life and may play roles in both the carbon cycle and the nitrogen cycle.
Archaea is being packaged and marketed by Jobe’s (easy gardening) fertilizers as BioZome, but has industrial uses as well as a soil amendment.
Human Hair Fertilizer

If you cut your hair at home, save your trimmings and work them into the garden for a boost to nitrogen.
Additionally, human hair is a deterrent to deer and acts as a mulch as well.

The “Explicit-Implicit Interaction Theory” explained in the linked article can be used for future artificial intelligence. The theory model can be used for creatively solving problems. ”Does that allow for robot artists in the future?”. An interesting thought.

Tobacco put to good use.

Tobacco has been used by gardeners for centuries as a pesticide. It appears as though nicotine kills bugs. A tobacco based “bio-oil”, created with high temperatures in a vacuum has promise to become useful for organic farming. The bio-oil was also useful when the nicotine was removed.

Safe, Clean Energy with lasers and fusion.

HiPER is being designed to demonstrate the feasibility of laser driven fusion as a future energy source.
HiPER stands for High Power laser Energy Research facility.
Fusion occurs when Deuterium and Tritium (isotopes of Hydrogen) are forced to bond together to create Helium and a very energetic particle called a neutron. This neutron can be captured to heat water to drive a steam turbine. Sea water and the Earth’s crust are the source of the fuel.

Of an Asteroid and the Dinosaurs.

There was a giant space rock about 9 miles wide. In an explosion one billion times more powerful than the atomic bomb blast at Hiroshima, the asteroid smashed into Mexico. In a matter of days, more than half of the species on earth were wiped out including the dinosaurs. This happened around 65 million years ago.
